JCSC House Committee
"State of the Buildings"

I wanted to share what positive actions have been accomplished by the new board so far. None of the repairs are really visual but those projects are in the immediate future. The good news is that we have installed a sump pump and new entrance doors to the rear basement to resolve the annual flooding. The removal of the two old freezers together with the well mature contents means with a little more cleaning we have a usable storage space which now houses the spare chairs.

The Rabbi’s house needed some critical plumbing replaced in the basement which I am pleased to say has been completed. A few weeks ago we lost the guttering at the rear of the classrooms in the ice storm, this has now been replaced. The focus on energy conservation has also been initiated with the insulation of the attic above the classrooms. This also gave us the opportunity of cleaning up the area which had not been looked at for decades. The side door had the sweep replaced so seeing leaves blown in or having the thermostat work overtime is resolved.

Can You Help?

We have been looking at the replacement of the windows in the sanctuary, carpets, laminate floor at the rear together with a complete kitchen overhaul. During this we would like to address the electrical outlet issue and upgrade the current antiquated system. The classrooms also need new floor covering, shelving and ceilings, if you look outside we need to address the brickwork, external wood trim and waterproof protection of the sanctuary.

Sounds like and is a lot of work, yes but it needs to be addressed. What can you do

1.                   Volunteer to help

2.                   Sponsor a repair (now that’s an idea!)

3.                   Dedicate a window, cabinet or flooring

The legacy of the JCSC has been entrusted to us for our children and those that come behind us. If you can help make a difference please give me a call 201-400-3172

Kind Regards
